Make Your Own Vintage Swatch Gift Tags

Sometimes it's the smallest handmade details that make a gift feel special.

Inspired by old fabric swatch books, these pretty little gift tags are made using our Antique Wallpapers Mini Vintage Art Fabric Prints, with softly scalloped edges and a delicate gold thread.

Wonderfully simple to make, they're a lovely way to add a personal, vintage-inspired finishing touch to Christmas parcels.

And with two gift tags from every Mini Print, you can make a whole collection in no time.

What You'll Need

  • Mini Vintage Art Fabric Prints — Antique Wallpapers collection

  • Scalloped or pinking scissors

  • Regular scissors

  • Ruler

  • Small hole punch

  • Gold embroidery thread

  • Soft pencil for writing messages

How to Make Your Vintage Swatch Gift Tags

Step 1 — Cut Out Your Prints

Carefully cut out your chosen Mini Vintage Art Fabric Prints, following the edges of each design.

Step 2 — Mark the Centre

Using a ruler and soft pencil, draw a light line down the centre of each print to divide it into two equal halves.

Step 3 — Make Your Swatches

Cut carefully along your pencil line to create two little fabric swatches from each Mini Print.

Step 4 — Create Your Scalloped Edges

Using scalloped or pinking scissors, trim around the edges of each swatch to give it a pretty, decorative finish.

Step 5 — Punch a Hole

Make a small hole at one end of each swatch, leaving enough fabric around the hole to keep it secure.

Step 6 — Add Your Gold Thread

Thread a length of gold embroidery thread through the hole and tie the ends together.

Your Vintage Swatch Gift Tag is complete, ready to attach to a beautifully wrapped Christmas present.

A Little Finishing Touch

If you'd like to write a name or personal message on your gift tag, we recommend using a soft pencil rather than a pen. It gives a lovely, gentle finish and won't bleed into the fabric.

Make a handful in different patterns, mix and match your favourite colours, and enjoy adding a little handmade charm to your Christmas gifts.

Happy making!

With love from the studio,
