The Sweetest Little Lavender Pillows

The Sweetest Little Lavender Pillows

With temperatures soaring this week, I've found myself slowing down a little.

Seeking shade.

Taking things at a gentler pace.

And finding comfort in small creative projects.

These simple lavender pillows are one of my favourite summer makes. Filled with dried lavender and finished by hand, they've become the sweetest little jewels — each one with its own personality and beautiful grouped together in decorative clusters.

They make thoughtful gifts, smell wonderful tucked into drawers or cupboards, and are a lovely way to showcase your favourite Mini Vintage Art Fabric Prints.

Here's how to make your own.

What You'll Need

  • Mini Vintage Art Fabric Prints
  • Backing fabric
  • Dried lavender
  • Sewing thread
  • Needle
  • Sewing machine (optional)
  • Small tassels (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Iron

Step 1

Cut out a selection of Mini Vintage Art Fabric Prints, leaving a 0.5 cm (¼ inch) border around each design.

Cut backing fabric to the same size. I've chosen a seaside-inspired vintage blue striped cotton, but any lightweight cotton will work beautifully.

Step 2

Place the Art Print and backing fabric wrong sides together.

Machine stitch or hand stitch around the edge, leaving approximately a 1 cm (⅜ inch) border.

Leave a 3 cm (1¼ inch) opening at the centre of the bottom edge so the pillow can be turned through.

Carefully snip the corners without cutting through the stitching.

Step 3

Turn the pillow right side out and gently press with an iron.

Fill with dried lavender until pleasantly plump.

Step 4

Hand stitch the opening closed using small, neat stitches.

Step 5

For a little extra sumptuousness, hand stitch a tassel onto one corner.

This tiny finishing touch makes them feel especially decorative and collected.

Step 6

Et voilà!

Your first little lavender pillow is complete.

Now all that's left to do is make another... and another... until you have a beautiful collection of sweetly scented pillows in an array of colours and patterns.

Perfect for gifting, displaying in decorative bowls, or simply enjoying around the home.

Happy stitching,

Rachel x
